Own Your Spot for young people

Own Your Spot is all about meeting up and activities for and by young people. In Leeuwarden, young people get the chance to come up with and organise their own activities. It is a place where you meet each other, do things together and make ideas happen.

Your place, your idea, your influence

A Spot can look many different ways. It could be a small square where you organise street football tournaments. Or a chill space in your neighbourhood with board games. It could also be an online group organising a gaming event in a village.

What is a Spot?

Every Spot is different. Young people decide what happens and what they need. This is how Spots appear across the municipality of Leeuwarden — places where young people meet, join fun activities and do something for their neighbourhood or community.

Some Spots happen once. Others come back regularly or last for a longer time. Sometimes it is mainly about meeting each other, sometimes about organising an activity. Every Spot is different, but one thing is always true: a Spot fits the world of young people and belongs to them.

Spots could be, for example:
  • A party for 12 to 15 year olds: a real music party for young people who cannot go to regular parties yet.
  • A chill spot in your neighbourhood or village: a space young people set up themselves to meet, play games or just hang out.
  • A creative club: a place to work together on art, fashion, photography, music or media.
  • Summer games in your village: sports, games and activities for young people staying home over the summer.
  • An event about your future: for example about work, study choices, money matters or everything you need to sort out when you turn 18.
  • Or something completely different! Is something missing for young people in Leeuwarden? That could be exactly what your Spot becomes.

How can you take part?

Three years in a row, we ask young people in the municipality of Leeuwarden: what are you missing and what ideas do you have for Leeuwarden? That is how new Spots come to life: activities, events and meeting places for and by young people.

There are lots of ways to take part. Come up with your own idea, help out with someone else's idea, vote for the plans you like or visit one of the Spots later on. There is always a way to join in!

Own Your Spot always goes through the following phases, and you can take part in each one in a different way:
  1. Idea phase: young people submit their ideas for a Spot.
  2. Plan phase: young people are matched with a mentor and together submit a more detailed plan.
  3. Voting phase: young people vote for their favourite plans.
  4. Action phase: the chosen plans become reality. Young people help make it happen and can visit the new Spot.

Do you have a great idea?
